Proper free-entry dates for museums, historic houses, archives, industrial sites and buildings that are normally paid or closed. Every highlighted event links to its official listing, because “probably free” is how wallets get mugged politely.

Free admission does not guarantee a zero-cost day. Booking can still be compulsory, spaces can fill, and parking, transport, cafés and separately ticketed activities may cost extra. Recheck the official event page before setting off.

✓ A £0 advance ticket is allowed and clearly labelled.
✓ Normally paid or normally closed places are clearly distinguished.
✕ Member-only, resident-only and “children go free” offers do not count as universally free.
✕ Free parking attached to a paid attraction does not magically make the attraction free.
